About Me

Hello!

I'm Christine and I create contemporary theatre which is imaginative, theatrical and collaborative. I see theatre as a platform for activism, discussion and self-reflection. I have a love for stories and what they can teach us about ourselves and the world.  My work often surrounds and explores feminism and political and social issues with the aim to provoke audience members to see the world differently and to arouse self-reflection.

As a director I work primarily with scripted plays but I have extensive training in devising from training in contemporary theatre making on the BA (Hons) European Theatre Arts degree at Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance.

In 2017 I was awarded The Jacqueline Nichols Award for Excellence in Directing.

What's a rehearsal process like with Christine steering the ship?

  1. Rehearsals start with an ensemble warm up, which usually includes a dance circle to some uplifting music to get everyone a bit sweaty and in a good mood. Professional dance experience and skill is not necessary but enthusiasm is!
  2. Rehearsals are practical, energetic and playful. I usually direct stood up and bounce about the room with the actors. I believe that plays should be full of drama, high stakes and tension. I also like to explore the anthropology of the play in detail with actors and collaborators to create worlds that are rich in historical and social context.
  3. Productions are directed with sound, lighting, costume and set design in mind. I always aim to create beautiful and arresting compositions on stage to aide the storytelling. I therefore encourage a very collaborative design process and like to have designers and stage management present and involved during rehearsals as much as possible.
  4. Lastly, I like to lead with compassion, kindness and respect.
