The Pursuit of Success

Packed with guts and heart, The Pursuit of Success is a physical and topical devised show that wonders what happens to your story when someone else holds the pen? Through the story of a screenwriter, with the ambition to share the true story of pilot Amy Johnson, this surreal show explores female representation and ambition in the 1930’s as well as today.

Part gig/ part dream, Lobster Frock’s debut play has a distinct style which fuses vocal looping, physical storytelling and comedy. By skilfully and shamefully dissecting sexism and feminism, can we start to understand how we have reached the daily prejudices which we accept as normal? Can we fight the power? Or have we already lost?

Lobster Frock Theatre Company

Lobster Frock make surrealist theatre, hence the nod to Dali’s ‘Lobster Telephone.’ We create feminist work collaboratively and playfully. Lobster Frock specialise in improvisation, object theatre and Le Coq’s concept of ‘le jeu.’ We devise physically, inspired by the work of Grotowski, Le Coq and our own coined theatre practise. Our company results from our akin political views. We aim to provoke people to see the world differently and arouse self-reflection.

Lobster Frock was co-founded by Artistic Director/ Deviser Kirsty Blewett and Deviser/Performer Christine Mears. They are working closely with their associate pod of Lobsters including Director: Phoebe Hitt, Dramaturg: Lisa Stelley, Scenographer: Emma Marguerite Lynch and Sound Designer: Ben Tiver

Lobster Frock have had residencies with ARC Stockton and Theatre Delicatessen where we performed a 20-minute preview. We then fundraised for a 2 week R&D to finish the show; week one in London, week two at the Kilden Performing Arts Centre in Norway. We then were rehearsing weekly to polish and solidify the piece at Stanley Halls.

Lobster Frock offer something different to the world as a device to provoke conversation.
